Baby Eagan - NICU Day 144-159 - Finally Extubated

Eagan is finally off the ventilator. For a while there, it seemed like he wanted to keep it forever. Slowly but surely, bits of machinery are leaving our little room. First, the ventilator left, and today, a few medicine pumps made their exit. Fewer machines mean he is getting better! He made it up to 12 cc's on his feeds but after some digestive issues, was moved back down to 7. At his current weight, we need to get to 22 cc's to make it out the door to home.  After our most recent eye exam, the retina specialist definitely thinks Eagan will need laser eye surgery. This will probably happen at the end of the month.

The big kids went on a family outing to the Georgia Aquarium today with my family. Since Eagan is stable now, we are trying to do a few fun things with the kids before Eagan comes home. Once Eagan is home, the house will be on lock down and no one will be able to go out an do much other than doctor appointments. If one of the older kids gets sick, Eagan is at a great risk of catching it. A simple virus could send us straight back to the hospital. Eli and Evelyn loved looking at the fish and watching the Dolphin Tales show. Evelyn was especially interested and we even had a hard time getting her to move from one exhibit to the next.
