Eagan's lungs are still full of fluid. Unfortunately, this takes a long time to clear up. They will do another X-ray in the morning to see if any improvement has been made. He is still about twice his normal body weight in swelling. The nurses and doctors are doing everything they can to keep him as comfortable as possible while they try to slowly get the fluid out.
Here is a run-down of his current status:
Weight
4lb 3oz - We would normally be thrilled with a weight like this, but Eagan really weighs about half of this due to all of the swelling. He is just so puffy and uncomfortable.
Length
14" at last measurement
Breathing
Eagan is on the conventional ventilator. His settings at at 31 breaths per minute. His oxygen rate is 30%. The pressure that the ventilator puts in his lungs is at 24.
Vitals
Eagan's blood pressure was great today.
Vein and Artery Access
Eagan has an internal jugular line that was placed in surgery.
The arterial line is in his head.
A CVL, central venous line, was placed during surgery on the left side.
Medications
Hydrocortisone, for blood pressure and stress response, was decreased to 2 mg.
Eagan is on Vancomycin and Meropenum - both antibiotics.
His Morphine was previously given every two hours but now his is on the same dose, but as a constant drip.
Caffeine has been started as a diuretic to try to speed up his kidney function.
Lasix, a diuretic, has been added to try to get the fluid out of his little body.
Eagan was given Albumen, the main protein in our blood, to try to keep his veins from leaking and making him more swollen.
His blood gas last night came back that he was very acidodic so he was given sodium bicarbonate to regulate his ph.
Nutrition
Eagan's only sources of nutrition right now are his TPN fluids and lipids.
Output
Eagan has a foley catheter in place. His urine output was good today.
